Jerod Turner wins the Inaugural Soboba Classic

With consistant play all week Jerod Turner took control of the tournament and won his first Nationwide Tour event. Turner shot rounds of 68-66-66-69=269 to win by two shots over Derek Lamely. The win for Turner moved him from 150th on the money to 17th and has all but assured him his 2010 PGA TOUR card. The top 25 players at the end of the season will be awarded PGA TOUR Cards and the $180,000 first place prize money was on the mind of all the players that played in the tournament as their ticket to the TOUR.
Local players Rickie Fowler (T-31) and Brendan Steele (T-8)had great weeks. Rickie, who had just turned professional earlier in the month picked up his first "official" pay check. Steele who has been playing on the Nationwide all season, improved in the overall standing with his finish and is looking at the last three events to secure his card for 2010. Both Fowler and Steele enjoyed the largest galleries of the tournament with many fans wanting to follow the hometown favorites.

Soboba Classic Announces Sponsor Exemption

The Soboba Classic has invited Rickie Fowler, Murrieta, CA to play in the inaugural Nationwide Tour Event. Fowler has decided to pursue his professional golf career after the 2009 Walker Cup Matches, Sept. 12-13 and the Soboba Classic is the first event scheduled as a professional.

Fowler is looking to build on an outstanding career as an amatuer golfer in which he was ranked multiple times as the #1 amatuer in the world. He was the winner of the 2008 Phil Mickelson Award for the best freshman college golfer as well as the 2008 Ben Hogan Award for best overall college golfer. In addition he was the low amatuer in the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.

Rickie competed earlier this year at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Tournament and lost in a two hole play-off. Rickie was in the lead for most of the final round but a costly bogey on the last hole put him into the play-off with eventual winner Derek Lamely.

Walk with the players as a scorer or a standard bearer and witness the great play up close. New $1 million Soboba Classic to debut in 2009

SAN JACINTO, Calif. -- The PGA TOUR's Nationwide Tour and the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians announced Tuesday that a new Nationwide Tour event offering a $1 million purse will be played at the Country Club at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto, Calif.
